BREAKING NEWS - Hoghton Tower Classic Cancelled
The Lancashire Classic Car & Motorcycle Show, planned for Hoghton Tower, nr. Preston, this Sunday (August 14) has been cancelled.
Organisers Classic Shows only announced last week that a new and better field had been made available to them at the well-known Lancashire venue, but 'catastrophic' levels of summer rain in the area mean that, no matter where they turn, their plans are scuppered.
Classic Shows boss Matthew Harvey told CMM today: "These are circumstances simply out of our control.
"Unfortunately the event field we hired was damaged during an event held by another company, leaving it unusable (pictured). Once we found out about this issue we had meetings with a number of alternative venues around the area, but without success. Following this we did manage to agree on the use of an alternative field within the Hoghton Tower grounds, and so thought we had the situation resolved, however the new field that was agreed upon is sited at the bottom of a hill where water gathers, and it has become rather wet.
"With the potential for further rainfall this week, the venue has made the decision that the ground will not be suitable, and so we have had to cancel the event; the safety of our entrants, their vehicles, and our visitors always comes first.
"We would like to offer our apologies to all of our supporters who were looking forward to attending the event, but we hope they appreciate we have done everything we can to keep the show running."
Matthew added that they hoped to be back at Hoghton Tower, a venue the team has used successfully for many years, in 2017.
