  • To commemorate the first Thousand Mile Run, each year the aim of the Federation of British Historic Vehicle Club’s Drive It Day is to get as many historic vehicles out Britain’s roads as possible.
There is a list of events on www.fbhvc.co.uk that you can attend or simply use your classic vehicle instead of more modern transport; and do consider offering a passenger ride to those not fortunate enough to own anything historic - it might just ignite a spark of interest!
The FBHVC’s own activity will be to repeat what they have done for the last few years and go the Royal Oak at Bishopstone. If you’re out and about in, or on, something over 25 years old in central southern England, why not include the Royal Oak in your itinerary?
This celebration of the Thousand Mile Run is held every year on the Sunday closest to April 23 and shows the spirit and enthusiasm of the old vehicle movement. The 2009 Drive (or Ride) It Day saw very many vehicles out on that day and so proved that we enthusiasts are not involved with ‘old bangers’ the government is trying to banish from the roads but genuinely cherished cars, bikes, commercials etc. Here’s a small selection of Drive It Day club events that you can enjoy on Sunday, April 2:

Stilton Classic Drive it Day is organised by Kettering Area Motor Club in conjunction with the Citroen Specials Club to coincide with the FBHVC "Drive it Day".This will be the third year for this non competitive Road Run re-enacting the original route of the celebrated cheese from the source, Quenby Hall (Leicestershire) to The Bell Inn in the village of Stilton in Cambridgeshire. All types of vehicles welcome say the organisers. All profits to the Air Ambulance Services...

The Tyne Tees Centre of the MG Car Club will again be organising their annual Cobweb Run in celebration of the FBHVC Drive it Day.
The event will take the form of approximately an 80 mile non competitive road run through the valleys of the North and South Tyne. A Tulip Style Route Book and Rally Plate will be provided to each entrant.
This event is open to all types of vehicles. The event will also be approved by the Motor Sport Association. For further details and an entry form contact Peter or Lyn Ebdon on 01434 344568 or email info@peterebdon.com...

Cornwall Austin Seven Club is supporting Drive it Day with the 3rd Pre-War Austin Day, inviting owners of any pre-war Austin to link up with runs from Blackwater, Wadebridge, Truro, St Austell, Callington and Bideford to meet at the Cobweb Car Park, Boscastle between 12 noon and 3 pm.
